Monmouth College will host a pair of concerts on the weekend of Feb. 23-24 in the Kasch Performance Hall of Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
The Chorale and Chamber Choir will give a concert on Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m., and the Monmouth Winds and Concert Band will perform their annual winter concert on Feb. 24 at 2 p.m.
For the Feb. 23 concert, there will be a $5 suggested donation for non-students to help fund for the Chorale’s upcoming trip to New York City to sing in Carnegie Hall.
Both vocal groups will perform a variety of musical styles, including classical, folk and spirituals. Some highlights of the performance include Mendelssohn’s “Richte mich, Gott,” Eric Barnum’s “The Sounding Sea,” Morten Lauridsen’s “Dirait-on,” Vince Peterson’s “Cells Planets” and the Monteverdi madrigal “Ecco Momorar L’onde.”
“The Chorale and Chamber Choir are recording a CD on the day before this concert,” reported assistant professor of music Tim Pahel, who directs both ensembles. “We’ll record songs that we will sing at the concert, as well as some songs from ‘Christmas at Monmouth.’ It will be the first time in about 12 years that a professional-quality CD has been recorded by the Chorale, and we expect it to ready by our spring concert on April 26.”
"With transcriptions, marches, original works for band and novelty pieces, there will be something for everyone (at the Feb. 24 concert)," said music lecturer Matt Wanken.
