Monmouth College President Dr. Clarence R. Wyatt issues DACA statement

President Dr. Clarence R. Wyatt
MONMOUTH, Ill. – The following is a statement from Monmouth College President Dr. Clarence R. Wyatt about Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals:

"While we had heard speculation regarding an announcement about the future of DACA, I wanted to wait until we heard the actual announcement. In light of Attorney General Session’s statement today regarding the DACA program, I want to take this opportunity to reinforce statements that we have made earlier this year.

"We will continue to support ALL of our students, including those affected by DACA, as they pursue their educations at Monmouth College.

"From its earliest days, Monmouth has welcomed students from many backgrounds. No matter what their particular backgrounds might be, they have shared a commitment to hard work, to mutual respect, and to building rich and fulfilling lives in service to their families and communities. That commitment continues today, reflecting, as it always has, the best of our College and our country. That is what it means to be a Noble Scot.

"From news reports, there appears to be bipartisan support for efforts to provide certainty going forward to the young people in question. We encourage those efforts, and fervently hope that they will be successful. We will continue to monitor developments in the weeks and months ahead."
