Continuing a holiday tradition that spans more than 35 years, the Mon-mouth College theatre department and the Buchanan Center for the Arts invite the public to open auditions for “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens.

The auditions will be held on Sept. 21 from 3 – 5:30 p.m. and from 7 – 10 p.m., and on Sept. 22 from 7 – 10 p.m. in Wells Theater, which is located on the Monmouth College campus at 9th Street and Broadway. No previous acting experience is necessary, and those interested can come in at any time during the auditions.

Performances of “A Christmas Carol” will be Nov. 17-19 and will feature evening performances as well as school matinees. Rehearsals will begin the week of Oct. 17.

MC theatre director Bill Wallace reports there are more than 40 speaking roles in the show, and says that carolers, dancers and people of all ages are needed. More information is available from Wallace at 309-457-2374 or

“This is a great opportunity to celebrate the holiday season,” said Wallace. “In the past, we’ve had families participate together, grandparents with their grandchildren, and the college students and the community have had great fun and created great theatre.”

Ticket information for public performances and school matinees can be obtained by calling the Buchanan Center at 309-734-3033.
