The Monmouth College Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Carolyn Suda, will perform a free concert Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. in the Kasch Performance Hall of the college’s Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
“Our central work will be the classical Symphony #80 in D Minor by Joseph Haydn, featuring our strings and woodwinds,” said Suda. “This wonderful work abounds with drama and passion, but at the same time Haydn humorously laughs at all this fury. As Haydn famously said, ‘I prefer to see the humorous side of life,’ and this work represents this aspect of Haydn.”
The orchestra will also play two string pieces that capture a dance mood – Edlund’s “Russian Rhapsody” and O’Fallon’s “Gaelic Overture.” The full orchestra will conclude the concert with selections from “Fiddler on the Roof.”
“Any preparation of a classical work takes enormous concern for nuance and detail,” added Suda. “It has been a joy to take this journey with our music students. I am gratified at the level of determination and dedication our orchestra embodies. They have worked so hard.”
