MC names students of the year at honors convo

Four students received special awards at Monmouth College’s annual honors convocation last week.
 
Senior and Freshman Man of the Year honors were awarded by the Monmouth chapter of Blue Key Honor Society, a national organization recognizing upperclassmen for outstanding character and ability and distinction in service, leadership and scholarship.
 
The Senior Man of the Year was Kyle Earman of Palos Heights. A business administration major, he is the son of Linda Wolgamott.
 
Corey Yost of Eldridge, Iowa, was named Freshman Man of the Year. The son of Patrick and Karen Yost, he is studying environmental science.
 
Senior and Freshman Woman of the Year honors were awarded by the Tau Pi chapter of Mortar Board, a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for scholarship, leadership, service and scholarship.
 
The Senior Woman of the Year was Michelle Hutchison, a senior communications and public relations major from Galesburg. She is the daughter of Patricia Hutchison.
 
Haley Miller of Viola was named Freshman Woman of the Year. The daughter of Drexel and Dana Miler, she is studying elementary education.
 
Next year’s president and vice president for the Associated Students of Monmouth College, MC’s student government organization, were also announced at the convocation. The president for the 2013-14 academic year will be Adam Ruble, a junior from Pittsfield, and the vice president will be Samantha Stevenson, a junior from Cambridge. Ruble, who is majoring in English, is the son of Paul and Patty Ruble. Stevenson, a mathematics major, is the daughter of Ed and Joy Stevenson.
