The Fighting Scots football team will lay one of their own to rest this weekend after defensive lineman Tommy Hoerr was pronounced dead Monday at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Hoerr – a 21-year-old business major who had just completed his junior year – died as the result of a vehicular mishap last weekend. A 6-foot-3, 205 pound defensive lineman from Brimfield, Hoerr played in four games last season for the conference champions and would have been one of 15 seniors returning this fall.

Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church at 7422 North Heinz Lane in Edwards, Ill. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at the Brimfield Township Cemetery. Wilton Mortuary in Peoria is in charge of the arrangements. Members of the Monmouth College community may wish to make memorial gifts to the Tommy Hoerr Memorial Award, which the MC coaching staff has established to help students from Hoerr's alma mater of Brimfield High School attend Monmouth.
