Monmouth College’s annual Family Weekend will headline a busy Sept. 27-29 schedule on campus.
In addition to the popular celebration, which features an annual concert, the college will welcome prospective students for the second Scots Saturday campus visit program of the fall. The event coincides with the Monmouth vs. Cornell football game that kicks off Saturday at 1 p.m. at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
With a theme this year of “Aloha! Where MC Means Family,” Family Weekend is designed primarily to help students enjoy the Monmouth experience with their families. The weekend’s festivities will begin Friday with a performance by the comedy duo DakaBoom at 7 p.m. in Dahl Chapel.
Saturday’s activities begin with a 5K run/walk at 8 a.m., starting in front of the Huff Athletic Center. Race-day check-in begins at 7:15 a.m., and participants can run, jog or walk the course.
A “legacy” brunch will be held at 10 a.m. at Quinby House. Open to students and their alumni relatives, the event celebrates Monmouth’s long-standing family traditions. Also starting at 10 a.m., cookout food and “inflatable” activities for all ages will be available in The Quad until 2 p.m.
On Saturday at 7 p.m. in Dahl Chapel, three MC music ensembles will present the annual Family Weekend Concert, which is free and open to the public. Performing will be the Monmouth Chamber Orchestra, the Monmouth Chorale and the Monmouth Winds. At 9 p.m. in Dahl Chapel, students and their families will be treated to a performance by the comedy duo AudioBody. Reservations and a ticket are required for admission.
The office of admission’s prospective student event is an abbreviated version of its typical open house program. The day’s schedule begins with a welcome at 10 a.m. in the new $40 million Center for Science and Business, following which prospective students will tour campus, meet with admissions representatives and eat lunch, before attending the football game.
