Samantha Latora of East Peoria and Michelle Nutting of Weldon Spring, Mo., both juniors at Monmouth College, recently received an honorable mention award in the area of Web and Electronic Design and Layout from the Central Illinois Public Relations Society of America.

At a ceremony held recently in Bloomington, the pair received the award for a Web site promoting MC’s student dance team, The Red Hot Scots. They also earned honorable mention awards for a brochure and flyer created for the site.

“It was exciting to be a part of the first annual awards,” said Nutting, who said the Web site project grew out of an assignment from lecturer Chirs Goble’s ‘Layout and Design’ class.

The site, which was completed over a period of three months, was entered in the competition at the suggestion of Goble.

“We had no idea this award existed,” said Latora. “It’s very exciting to be one of the award recipients.”

Both students said it was a good experience to work on the project, because they were able to learn different techniques for placing pictures and videos on a Web site.

“I also learned about the complexity of creating a Web site,” said Latora.
