Witzig to speak about traveling in the Middle East

Barry McNamara
Assistant professor of history Fred Witzig will be the featured speaker at Monmouth College’s next International Luncheon talk on Nov. 10 at noon in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room of the Stockdale Center.

During the summer of 2010, Witzig and his family toured Israel and Egypt. His presentation, titled "The Different Layers of Experience in Traveling in the Middle East," will survey some of the most awe-inspiring remnants of the ancient world and the seemingly intractable conflicts and accomplishments of today. Using pictures and conversations with the people of Israel and Egypt, Witzig will provide layer after layer of human stories – from the small and mysterious ruins of the long-ago Canaanite people of Beit Shean, to the Wall of the West Bank.

A buffet lunch, featuring international foods, is available. A meal ticket may be purchased for $7.50 can be purchased at the luncheon, but lunch reservations must be made in advance by calling 309-457-2149. Anyone may attend the presentation without obligation to purchase the meal.
