Leadership expert Posner to speak at MC conference

Barry Posner, co-author of the award-winning and best-selling leadership book “The Leadership Challenge,” will be the keynote speaker at the Associated Students of Monmouth College (ASMC) Leadership Conference on March 1.
 
A distinguished professor at Santa Clara University, Posner has been named one of the nation’s top management and leadership educators by the International Management Council. He was recognized as one of the Top 50 leadership coaches in America and ranked among the most influential human resources thinkers in the world by HR magazine. Described as a “warm, engaging and pragmatic conference speaker and dynamic workshop facilitator,” Posner has worked with several major companies on leadership practices and has been involved with leadership development efforts at more than 50 college campuses.
 
An internationally renowned scholar who has published more than 90 research and practitioner-oriented articles, Posner has also co-authored other award-winning books on leadership. They include “Credibility: How Leaders Gain and Lose It, Why People Demand It” and “The Truth About Leadership: The No-Fads, Heart-of-the Matter Facts You Need to Know.” He is currently on the editorial review boards of the International Journal of Servant-Leadership and Leadership and Organizational Development Journal.
 
Posner received the American Society for Training and Development’s highest award for Distinguished Contribution to Workplace Learning and Performance for “The Leadership Challenge,” which has been described as a “groundbreaking research study, combining keen insights with practical applications.” Translated into more than 20 foreign languages, it was among the top dozen books of 2012 by Fast Company. “The Leadership Challenge” was listed among The Top 100 Business Books of All Time and received book-of-the-year honors from the American Council of Health Care Executives.
 
The authors’ Leadership Practices Inventory has been called “the most reliable, up-to-date leadership instrument available today,” and its online version has been completed by more than 3 million people around the globe.

Posner received an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of California-Santa Barbara, a master’s degree in public administration from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior and administrative theory from the University of Massachusetts.
 
At Santa Clara, he has received the President’s Distinguished Faculty Award, the school’s Extraordinary Faculty Award and several other honors for leadership and outstanding teaching.  He has been a visiting professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Sabanci University (Istanbul), and the University of Western Australia.
