Iran, Bulgaria are topics of MC events

Iran and Bulgaria will be the subject of a pair of events at Monmouth College in the coming week. Both events will be held in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room of Stockdale Center and are free and open to the public.
On April 10 at 7:30 p.m., associate dean of students Mohsin Masood will lead the final Great Decisions forum of the spring semester on Iran. Suspicion and a troubled history have blighted U.S.-Iranian relations for three decades. Masood will ask how the United States and Iran can move forward. Is the existence of Iran’s nuclear program an insurmountable obstacle?
On April 11 at noon, associate dean Bren Tooley and MC students will discuss “The Fulbright International Summer Institute (FISI): Pravets, Bulgaria,” which took place last August.
Tooley spent the spring semester of 2010 at Bulgaria’s University of Veliko Tarnovo as a Senior Fulbright Scholar, then taught at FISI last year. She helped four MC students be accepted for the two-week experience, which included intensive week-long seminars, new friendships with Eastern European college students, great food and opportunities to explore Bulgaria.
A meal ticket may be purchased at the luncheon for $7.50, but reservations must be made five days in advance by calling 309-457-2149.
