As part of the observation of Latino Heritage Month at Monmouth College, the musical group Los Lara will perform a free public concert on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room in the Stockdale Center.

The musical duo of Leo and Kathy Lara will present a program of Latin American folkloric music from the Andes Mountains, using a wide variety of authentic instruments, including the charango, cuatro, bombo, quena and panpipes. They will display, perform and provide information on the history and legends behind these unique instruments.

“From beginning to end, Leo and Kathy Lara had the undivided attention of our students,” said one satisfied teacher whose school hosted the couple. “Their music, costumes, instruments, and storytelling had every student anticipating the next activity.”

In addition to the concert, Leo and Kathy will conduct two workshops while they are on campus, one on Sept. 22 at 12:30 p.m. in the Highlander Room, and the other on Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. in the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
