Urban, de la Pena to speak at Monmouth College events

Monmouth College’s Bill Urban and Alex de la Pena will each be featured at a campus event during the coming week in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room in Stockdale Center.
Urban, the college’s Lee L. Morgan Professor of History & International Studies, will lead the next Great Decisions discussion forum on Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. On Feb. 21 at 12 noon, de la Pena, who coaches the Fighting Scots men’s and women’s swim teams, will speak about the teams’ accomplishments at the monthly Monmouth Associates luncheon.
Following Urban’s opening remarks on “Intervention: Responsibility to Protect,” there will be approximately one hour of group discussion. Urban will address issues related to when an international community should intervene in a crisis such as Libya or Syria. The weekly Great Decisions discussion forums are free and open to the public.
The Associates program by de la Pena is free; a buffet lunch costs $10. Reservations can be made by calling 309-457-2316 by Feb. 18.
A free shuttle van transports passengers from two locations to every Associates luncheon. The van will stop at the Faith United Presbyterian Church parking lot at 11:45 a.m. and at the northeast quadrant of the Public Square at approximately 11:50 a.m. It will return to both locations immediately following the program. Shuttle reservations should be made by calling the above number.
