Monmouth Chamber Orchestra, Knox String Ensemble to present concert

Monmouth College and Knox College will come together in April to make some memorable music.

The Monmouth Chamber Orchestra and Knox College String Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. April 7 in the Kasch Performance Hall of Monmouth’s Dahl Chapel and Auditorium. The concert will be repeated at 3 p.m. April 9 in Knox’s Kresge Auditorium.

Carolyn Suda, who directs Monmouth’s orchestra, said the concert is “an exciting collaboration. ... The program has much diversity across a wide spectrum of string orchestra music.”

The concert will open with baroque and classical works: Vivaldi’s Concerto in D Major and a humorous, energy-filled rondo movement from Joseph Haydn’s “Symphony in G Major, Opus 33.”

The central work will be Tchaikovsky’s “beautiful and passionate” Andante for String Orchestra, Opus 30.

Following English folk music by John Rutter and Percy Grainger, the program will conclude with two dramatic Hungarian folk dances by Brahms.
