Monmouth College’s Matt Shepherd (Leesburg, Fla./Leesburg) may have ended his collegiate career, but he’ll get at least one more chance to play football after signing with a European pro team this spring.

Shepherd, who majored in business at Monmouth, reported to Finland’s Kouvola Indians in mid-May to begin workouts. The 6-foot-3 wide receiver holds numerous Monmouth records and participated in two postseason all-star games. In his junior year, he became the first Fighting Scot to record more than 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. Shepherd wrapped up his four years last fall as the career leader with 2,785 receiving yards. He also broke the school record with 4,888 all-purpose yards and completed his career with a 42-game reception streak. Named a preseason All-American by the DIII Senior Classic and, Shepherd was a four-time All-Midwest Conference performer.

The Kouvola Indians compete in the European Second Division.
