The Office of College Communications, a department of College Relations, offers a variety of support services to the Monmouth College community. Its four primary functions are: News Bureau, Publications Office, the College Web Services and Internal Communications.

The News Bureau
prepares news releases, arranges interviews for area media and coordinates a speakers bureau, serves as an official "voice" for the college, handles photography and video assignments, and acts as a liaison with the media and the public.

The Publications Office
designs and oversees the printing of many of the college’s publications, including the catalog, calendar, Redbook, Scots Newse, programs for events and departmental brochures. It is also responsible for approving other publications prior to printing, in order to maintain a consistent and appropriate image for the college. Assistance in design and copywriting is available, given sufficient notice (two weeks is standard).

Internal Communications
publishes the weekly campus newsletter, Pipeline, publicizes employee gatherings, maintains biographical files on employees, and provides some photography and video services for on-campus events. Please note that we do not have a full-scale photography or video department. There is no staff photographer, so such work must be scheduled around our other duties. We also have no darkroom and limited photographic equipment, but can usually get the work done. Videotaping of events and tape duplication can also be arranged.

Web Services
designs, develops and maintains the College web site

HOW YOU CAN HELP US:

  • Keep us informed about your activities, both professional and personal. What you may think is unimportant may in fact make an interesting feature article or provide a speaking opportunity (if you are willing). Professional achievements and activities will be published in Pipeline, and if they are notable, they may be included in Scots Newse.

  • It is important that our biographical files are up to date. Let us know if you change your address, marital status, phone number, etc. We also like to have current photos of all employees, so we may be asking to take your photo, unless you can provide us with one that you prefer to use.

  • Let us know what your students are up to. If they are involved in interesting research projects or have interesting backgrounds, we would like to know. This also applies to former students with whom you still maintain contact.

  • Give us ample notice when you need an event or news publicized. There is a very good possibility that we can get stories published or arrange for reporters to cover your event, but the likelihood decreases as the proximity to the event increases.

  • If you are publishing any material for public distribution, it is important that you first show it to us, so that we may check it for proper use of logo, colors and institutional language. We can also assist you with professional and technical assistance in publication design and printing.

HOW WE CAN HELP YOU:

  • We are a small office, with a staff of three, but we take pride in our versatility and ability to accomplish many tasks with limited resources. We will do all we can to assist you in any way we can, when time and resources permit. Notifying us as early as possible about an upcoming project will help ensure its success.

  • We offer copywriting, editing and design assistance at no charge to your department.

  • We provide videotaping and video duplicating on request.

  • We publish the campus newsletter, Pipeline, weekly throughout the academic year. Send us your information via e-mail (addressed to pipeline) or by campus mail. The deadline is Wednesday noon, and the newsletter is distributed online on Friday.
