Distinguished Service Award 2012 Dean St. Ledger
Dean St. Ledger joined the Monmouth College physical plant staff in 1957. Despite his recollection that he barely made it through his first week on the job, he has achieved one of the longest careers in college history. He has served as a custodian, utility man, electrician and superintendent of building and grounds-—a position he held for 22 years.
After retiring in 1996, he took a short break before returning to work as the Wells Theater part-time scene shop and lighting supervisor. According to theatre professor Doug Rankin, “Dean is unlike anyone I’ve ever worked with. All I have to do is tell him an idea and he figures out how to do it below budget. Dean is a master at recycling and has saved the college many thousands of dollars.” St. Ledger has touched the lives of countless students and and staff throughout his remarkable career.
