Awards

Each year the Monmouth College Alumni Board recognizes certain members of the alumni association or college community who have brought notable distinction to themselves in their careers or professions, who have served Monmouth well, and who inspire others to succeed.

We encourage Monmouth College alumni to nominate individuals who have distinguished themselves and deserve this recognition.

To nominate an individual for one of the following awards, send a profile of no less than 200 words that lists personal and professional accomplishments and reasons why the nominees should win the award. Email them to alumni@monmouthcollege.edu or send postal mail to Lucy Thompson '99, Director of Alumni Programs, 700 E. Broadway, Monmouth, IL 61462-1998.

Hall of Achievement
The highest honor bestowed by Monmouth College, the Hall of Achievement was founded by the Ralph Whiteman '52 family in 1992 to encourage current and future students to aspire for excellence in their lives and careers. By recognizing the achievements of a select group of successful alumni, the primary goals of the award are: to honor exemplary achievements by graduates from all disciplines; to recognize the contributions of faculty and staff in preparing these recipients for success; and to promote awareness and pride among all members of the college community about the achievements of its alumni.

Distinguished Service Award

Family of the Year Award
The Family of the Year Award is selected by the Alumni Board of Directors and is presented annually. The honored family is recognized for their consistent and sustained involvement with and support for Monmouth College over several generations. The family selected as the Monmouth College Family of the Year exemplifies qualities toward which Monmouth students should aspire – commitment to service, leadership and academic achievement.

Young Alumnus Award
This award is given by the Alumni Board to recognize the exceptional achievements of a young alumnus/a of Monmouth College for his/her significant contributions, accomplishments and/or demonstrated promise in his/her chosen field. In addition, the recipient must have exhibited leadership qualities and/or evidence of civic, cultural or charitable involvement. The award is to be given to an alumnus/a who is 35 years of age or younger.

Hatch Award
Jerry Hatch ’57 generously funds three annual faculty awards at Monmouth College.  One of them – the Hatch Award for Distinguished Teaching – provides recognition to a current faculty member for exemplary teaching and making a real difference in the lives of their students.  Alumni are encouraged to nominate a professor or instructor who had a major impact on their experience at Monmouth and their future success.

The Hatch Award for Distinguished Teaching recognizes faculty members for outstanding classroom teaching, assistance to students outside of class, mentoring, guiding students with individual projects, and/or advising extracurricular activities.  Recipients of the award are uniquely able to engage students in their courses and build relationships with them that go beyond the classroom.  These faculty members are role models and mentors, helping students achieve their highest potential.  Through interactions with these faculty members, students gain a wider view of the world and a deeper sense of their ability to contribute to society.
