Personal Reflections:
I first heard about Monmouth College my freshmen year of high school.  I figured why not go and visit colleges now! Well when I saw the campus I loved the fact that it was lively, full of color and pizazz.  After my visit, all I could think about was how great of a visit I had.  From then on, each high school year I would keep an eye out on any information I could get from MC along with any chance I could get to visit the campus.  Once senior year came around, I was thrilled to apply and the only hard part was waiting to hear if I had been accepted.  Once I was accepted everything fell into place.  I began looking for all my dorm things and waiting to hear who my roommate would be.

Once college started and I had moved into my first dorm room and began wondering what was I thinking?! I’m almost 4 hours away from home.  But as the years went by, I began to build bonds with other students who sooner or later became some of my friends.  I also built bonds with professors who made the time to help me when I needed reassurance that my paper was great but just needed to work on my grammar or organization skills.  It was all about learning, and growing as an individual among a community.  I met people who came and went.  I also kept the relationships with my professors because here at Monmouth, those bonds do not have to end just because you are not in that professor’s class anymore.  I learned a lot about myself here at Monmouth College.  I became an independent individual who succeeded and failed at everyday life experiences.  On graduation day, while listening to President Diztler’s speech I realized that although I had met a lot of challenges while in college, I knew at that very moment that living far away and attending Monmouth College as fun and as hard as times may have been, I found my second home.  I realized that Monmouth College was the absolute right choice for me and I was right for Monmouth College.

So with that said, do not be afraid to take a chance and explore things out of your comfort zone.  Explore the world to the fullest, especially when you have those opportunities.  No matter where you come from, who you are and what life brings you. Monmouth College is about self-growth, it is about becoming the individual and taking the path you are destined to take.  Explore “What college was meant to be”.  And who wouldn’t want to be a fighting Scot?!
