Searching the Web for Scholarships
As students begin their college search, many will conduct an "outside" scholarship search as well. An important thing to note is that Monmouth College accepts 100 percent of outside scholarships without reducing institutional dollars. Instead, we reduce the student’s self-help portion of their Financial Aid package (the amount you pay, the amount you borrow, or the amount you work through the work-study programs). This is an unusual advantage to students as most colleges and universities will reduce their own institutional dollars to students when outside scholarships are received. There are many websites that will allow you to conduct online searches for available scholarships. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind as you do this……1) do not pay for a search service, 2) steer clear from websites that ask you for several key personal identifiers including name, address, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, dates of birth.
