International Admissions Process

  • Fully complete the application for admission. International Application
  • Official or certified transcripts from all secondary schools and universities attended. All transcripts (i.e., course marks record), certificates and score cards must be translated into English and forwarded to the Monmouth College Office of Admission directly from the institution. Final examination results, which are often not available until the summer following graduation from high school, will be required of admitted students (as proof of completion of high school), but do NOT need to be provided as part of the application itself.
  • Completed and signed International Student Financial Certification Form
  • Original TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score report or ELS Language Center completion certificate for Intensive English for Academic Purposes* if your first language is not English. TOEFL or IELTS scores / ELS certificate should be sent directly to Monmouth College from the testing agency/ELS program. We require a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper) or of 79 (internet), or an IELTS score of 6.0. TOEFL/IELTS scores / ELS certificate must have been issued within the past two years. The Monmouth College code for TOEFL and SAT is 1484 and for ACT is 1084. (The language proficiency requirement may be waived upon request with adequate documentation if you have completed three or more years of high school in an English-medium school within the United States, United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand; attended one of the United World colleges schools; or transferred as a sophomore from a US college or university with satisfactory grades in humanities and social science courses.)
  • A thoughtful essay of at least 850 words and no more than 1200 words describing your academic interests and goals, and your reasons for studying in the United States at Monmouth College.  Include in this essay some information about yourself that would be helpful to us as we consider your application: academic interests, service activities, leadership experiences, artistic and athletic interests, hobbies and special skills, and career goals.
  • Two letters of recommendation from teachers and/or counselors.
Letters of recommendation from EducationUSA advisors are especially welcomed: we would happily take one letter from an EdUSA advisor instead of two letters from high school teachers and counselors where this is an option. See http://www.educationusa.info/centers.php to find an EducationUSA Advising Center near you.
* Monmouth College and ELS Educational Services, Inc. have an articulation agreement encouraging international student enrollment at Monmouth. Successful completion of the ‘ELS Intensive English for Academic Purposes’ program fulfills Monmouth’s English-language-proficiency requirement. ELS students are warmly welcome at Monmouth College.
