Pier T. Debes
Academic Biography:
Pier Debes is the Director of Concert Choir at Monmouth College. He is also an active performer of choral music, having performed in state, regional, national, and international venues. In his fifteen years of music performance, he has delved into multiple genres of ensemble including jazz, ska, folk, funk, choral, chamber, and a cappella. He is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association and also teaches voice, piano, guitar, and trumpet.
Throughout his education, he has conducted and founded multiple choral ensembles. In 2005, he founded Basil, a men’s a cappella group that performs regularly in Rockford, IL. In 2006, he was invited to conduct KANTOREI, The Singing Boys of Rockford for the world premiere of Stephen Paulus’ Adoration of the Wise Men. As an amateur composer, he was published in Catch literary magazine for his 2009 work, Eurydice.
Mr. Debes is currently the director of the Galesburg First Presbyterian Chancel Choir, and the Costa Catholic Academy Jubilee Choir. He is also a member of Nova Singers, a small and highly select professional choir made up of singers from western Illinois and eastern Iowa. Debes holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where he double-majored in music and education. There, he studied conducting and voice with Dr. Laura Lane, and Dr. Lynn Maxfield.
