Kevin R. Roberts
I am a fifteen-year member of the English Department faculty at Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois, where I direct the composition and argument program while advising students and also teaching a range of classes from composition to literature to grammar. Due to my background in public education, I teach the methodology seminar for student teachers preparing to teach Secondary English. I am also active in various aspects of public schooling, including work as a committee member of the Illinois Teacher Certification Review Program. I retain and maintain my Illinois public schools teaching certificate, as well. During my career, I have taught in public schools, community colleges, and universities. Can you tell that I really like to teach?!
My expertise in the field of English includes cinema studies and the detective fiction of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, specifically the adventures of Sherlock Holmes—an on-going literature class I developed for Monmouth College. The interest in Holmes started some thirty years ago and led to involvement in various Holmes literary societies and groups. Not only am I the campus Sherlockian expert, but also the campus grammarian. My grammar course introduces students to all aspects of grammar, from parts of speech to diagramming. Of course, my main emphasis on campus is writing. During my teaching career, I have always taught some form of writing, whether argumentative, expository, or creative. I also enjoy volunteering my time with non-profit groups and spending time with my nieces and nephews.
