Communication Studies Overview

The Department of Communication Studies(COMM) offers a Communication major that focuses on human communication in a wide variety of settings whether face to face or through media, for professional or personal success.

The Communication Studies  major stresses general knowledge of the field and development of the skills that lead to effective personal and professional application of knowledge.

In addition to coursework, internships and practical experience in the major field, the Communication student will learn the interrelationship of elements involved in all successful communication exchanges-- e.g., audience analysis, message content, delivery options/medium and context.

COMM majors may work in business and organizational leadership, public relations, in journalism or radio and television, in corporate training, in education, (to name only a few career opportunities); all of these involve the need to understand and develop useful communication strategies.
